ETNA is a training activity supported by the European Commission Sixth Framework Programme.
http://www.eu-summer-school.org/
The one week ETNA School on Plant Phenotyping is following the EPSO Workshop on Plant Phenotyping. The workshop is part of the ETNA School.
The school is addressed mainly to PhD-students and is limited to 20 participants.

Outline of the ETNA School on Plant Phenotyping
Focus of the ETNA School 2009 on Plant Phenotyping:
- Plant cultivation and environmental parameters: Setting the scene for analyses of the phenotype
- Methods, concepts and parameters of phenotyping: What is the phenotype?
- Data handling and evaluation: How to retrieve 'the phenotype'?
- Plant cultivation
- Analysis of leaf, root, and plant growth
- Measuring and Imaging photosynthesis sensing
- Hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing
- NMR-imaging
- Microwave resonator
Aims:
- Lecture-based foundation of state-of-the art phenotyping technologies
- Direct discussion of course participants with leading scientists applying and developing plant phenotyping
- Hand-on experience with advanced phenotyping technologies and installations
- Introduction to novel concepts on plant phenotyping
Implementation:
- Balanced mixture of
- lectures providing a sound basis for understanding the (physical and chemical) principles of analysis of plants for phenotyping and
- hand-on courses for training in some of the most advanced infrastructures worldwide
- small groups of participants in practical courses guarantee efficient training exercise
- courses include sophisticated and "simple" technologies - thus high-end phenotyping limited to specific infrastructures can be experienced and tested, while at the same time techniques that can be implemented in the home labs will be experienced and discussed for options and limitations
- Participants will be integrated into a workshop organised directly back-to-back with world-class scientists in the field (EPSO Workshop on Plant Phenotyping)
